LIVING THE BOSCONIAN SPIRIT IN THE MILITARY

Philip Bowie, 28 years old, graduated from Don Bosco Technological Institute in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education- Technical major in Maintenance Fitting & Machining and Mathematics. From 2015-18, he taught in Don Bosco Technical School, Gabutu.
He signed up for the Officer Cadet Program with the PNG Defence Force and was enlisted mid-2018 and was selected to go down to Australia to undergo training in the Australian Defence Force Academy.

‘As a Bosconian and past pupil, Don Bosco has taught me a lot and I find the same things applied and required of in the military’, he explained. ‘It is all about waking up early in the morning, keeping your room in inspection order, morning duties, consistency in attending class and most importantly meet the timings and be prepared ahead of the time as you don’t know when you will be called up for duty. Integrity is one of the army’s core values I practice to keep my Bosconian holiness and it is simply doing what is right when no one is around and correcting subordinates who are not doing the right thing.’
