“As the Yeast in today’s human family”, was the theme of this year’s WANTOK BOSCO Youth Camp. It was hosted at Don Bosco Technological campus from the 23rd to the 25th of June 2023. The camp, a climax of the youth and club activities in the institutions and parishes, had nearly 200 persons as participants and animators from Salesian institutions and parishes around Port Moresby and Araimiri, Gulf Province. Originally called the 300 Youth for Mary founded in 2008 by the late Fr. Valeriano Barbero, SDB, pioneer Salesian missionary in Papua New Guinea, the group has now evolved into the ADMA Youth. Joseph Kramar in Araimiri, Gulf Province, was the start of the Salesian Mission in this part of the world 43 years ago. Spiritual Moderatos and Youth Animators Meeting took place on 13-14 April 2023 in Emmaus Center. The settings represented in the meeting-formation where DBTI – East Boroko, DBTS – Gabutu, DBTSS- Kokopo, DBTC – Kumgi, MHC Parish Araimiri, MHC Parish – Rapolo, MHC Parish – Sabama. The Literacy and Numeracy Program – an initiative to give free and quality education to the poor children from the settlements of Gabutu and Banana Block. The primary objective of the project is to eliminate the rate of illiteracy and school drop- outs in the settlements. Through this learning programme, the children are helped to access to regular formal education. Began on 18th April 2022, the project has served 87 children from the two settlements. 68 of them were able to complete the course. Out of the 68, 52 children have been successfully enrolled in different schools of the neighbourhood.…
