Literacy & Numeracy Programme, 2022
The Literacy and Numeracy Program – an initiative to give free and quality education to the poor children from the settlements of Gabutu and Banana Block. The primary objective of the project is to eliminate the rate of illiteracy and school drop- outs in the settlements. Through this learning programme, the children are helped to access to regular formal education. Began on 18th April 2022, the project has served 87 children from the two settlements. 68 of them were able to complete the course. Out of the 68, 52 children have been successfully enrolled in different schools of the neighbourhood.…
Income generating skills training for mothers of children attending Literacy and Numeracy programme at DB Gabutu
Income generating skills training for mothers was launched on 18 October 2022 at the campus of Don Bosco Technical School Gabutu. It is a venture as a pilot project with the support of Fr, Pedro Sachitula and under the management of the MHMSC Sisters – Sr. Mini Jose, Sr. Lapynshai Khongwir and Sr. Kanchan Toppo. Launching of PGS Solar Energy Project
The PGS Solar Energy Project was launched on 01 February 2023 at EMMAUS Conference Centre. The launching was attended by Fr Gregorio Bicomong, the Provincial of the Salesian vice- province of PGS. In addition, Fr Ariel Macatangay, President of DBTI, Fr Srimal Silva, the Provincial Economer, Fr Eduardo Revilla, Ms. Rita Serto, Manager of Planning and Development Office, participants – which includes 4 Salesians priests, 2 brothers, 24 teachers and the 3 experts. To upgrade three classrooms for St. Dominic Savio Primary school, Herehere, Papua New Guinea
On the 13th November 2022, most reverence Bishop Pedro Baquero, Bishop of the diocese of Kerema, Gulf Province, officially inaugurated the three new classrooms at the Saint Dominic Savio Primary School Herehere. The school is a mission agency school under the Salesian Mission Community Araimiri. Don Bosco Araimiri community is surrendering the services to the Secondary School and the Parish of Mary Help of Christians in the Kerema diocese, Gulf Province, a remote area of Papua New Guinea. To provide a computer lab for Don Bosco Araimiri Secondary School with 20 computers
The Salesians community of Don Bosco, Araimiri runs an agency, secondary school in partnership with the government of Papua New Guinea. The school serves the people in remotest areas of the Gulf province. This year there are total of 300 students, out of which 210 are boys and 90 are girls. All of the students are in the boarding facility. The boys are looked after by the priests, while the girls are taken care of by the nuns. Upgrading of the computer was one of the top priorities of the school to makw the teaching and learning more accessible.
Water tanks donated by the Salesian Missions, New Rochelle, USA
Don Bosco Araimiri Secondary School is located in a very remote area, thus is unable to receive most of the basic services. Eight water tanks recently donated by the Salesian Missions, New Rochelle, USA have given the students access to fresh drinking water, rather than fetching unhygienic well water. “Here in Araimiri, we have been using well water for washing and cooking. During the months when we had little rain we had no other option but to fetch water in buckets for us to drink. This resulted in stomach aches and other illnesses. CLEAN WATER, SAVE LIFE
This year 2018 Don Bosco Henderson responded to one of the global issue of having clean water. The objective of the Water tank Project undertaken was to provide clean water to more than 350 students, to our staff members, to the APTC Trainees and the families living the surrounding of the school as they do not have clean water. In the country majority of the people survive with the well water and rain water.
