Mary Help of Christians Parish Oratory: Commemorating the Feast Day of Mama Mary

Sabama, Port Moresby: On Sunday, May 19, 2024, the oratory at the Mary Help of Christians parish, Sabama celebrated Mary Help of Christians with a special program for the little ones who frequent the oratory.

On that Sunday, the animators of the Sabama Oratory organized the children into three groups: the first group included toddlers, while the other two groups consisted of children aged 5-12 years. The groups and the animators prepared performances with the help of their animators. Before the performances began, everyone prayed a decade of rosary.

The first group to perform were the animators from the newly established Mary Help of Christian Technical Vocational Education Training Centre, who presented a dance. They were followed by the Sabama animators, who performed a song. A dance by the toddlers followed. The Light Blue group presented a drama depicting the dream of Saint Don Bosco at the age of nine, showing how Mother Mary guided him to turn wolves into sheep. The dark blue group then presented a drama, a dance, and a song.

After the performances, everyone participated in a quiz about Mary Help of Christians. The quiz, prepared by Sr. Trinh FMA, included awards for the children who answered the questions correctly. Light refreshments were then served to all the children who attended the Oratory.

Salesian Family

Don Bosco created a vast movement of persons to bring the Gospel of Jesus to young people and to work for their benefit. He himself founded the Society of St. Francis de Sales (Salesians of Don Bosco), the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters), the Association of Salesian Cooperators, and the Association Devoted to Mary Help (ADMA). Since then other groups have formed. Today 31 groups make up the Salesian Family spread throughout the world. These Groups have specifically distinct vocations but they live in communion with each other, share Don Bosco’s charism of ministering to the young especially those who are poor and at risk.
