Don Bosco Tetere, Solomon Islands: From 15th to 17th August 2025, more than 200 young people from Christ the King Parish and Don Bosco Rural Training Centre (RTC), Tetere, joyfully gathered to celebrate the feast of St. John Bosco, father and friend of the young. Held under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”, the three-day event brought together youth, families, and members of the Salesian Family in prayer, formation, sports, music, and cultural festivities.
The celebration opened on 15th August, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Youth joined hands with ADMA and Catholic Mothers in a Eucharistic celebration. The morning featured sports and preparations, while the evening was highlighted by a prayer service in honor of Mary and the official inauguration of Wantok Bosco. The night came alive with the Battle of the Bands and youth cultural dances.
On 16th August, Don Bosco’s birthday, the community celebrated a thanksgiving Mass. Afterwards, youth carried the Jubilee Cross in procession from the parish to DBRTC, pausing at the hospital to pray for the sick and their caregivers. At the RTC gate, prayers were offered for young people around the world, especially those in war zones, those who have lost hope, and children who are orphaned or marginalized. At Don Bosco’s statue, they recalled his legacy and prayed for new vocations. The youth then sang a birthday song to Don Bosco, filling the air with gratitude and joy.
The morning continued with a powerful formation session led by Fr. Robinson Parappilly, Rector of DBRTC, on the pressing issue of teenage suicide and its prevention. With deep attentiveness, the youth learned about warning signs, data, and preventive measures, while being reminded to treasure the gift of life. Small group discussions followed, where the young people reflected and made personal resolutions.
The afternoon was animated with games and the Rector’s Cup finals, while the evening featured a solemn Rosary and a lively cultural night, where provinces showcased traditional dances, songs, and attire. The day ended with night prayers of gratitude for Don Bosco’s mission and the Salesian Family’s service to youth worldwide.
On 17th August, the feast concluded with a vibrant youth-led Mass. The joy carried on with fun games, action songs, and a festive family meal. A shared lunch topped with ice cream brought smiles and laughter, sealing the celebration in true Salesian spirit.
The three-day gathering was a radiant witness of faith, joy, and family. It reminded all present that, when guided with love and hope, young people truly become “Pilgrims of Hope” in today’s world.
