I am Back

It is hard to imagine what life would be like today for most of our young generation including myself, if the Salesians fathers had never started the school we call, today, Don Bosco Technical Institute. I am among the most fortunate to be part of the school first as a student, maintenance-man, and instructor from t2002 to 2008, and now this year 2017 back again as a teacher for the welding course. Indeed, this school serves as a second chance for good citizens of this country, who did not make it through the formal Education, giving them a place where they can thrive and grow. What the school has kept until now is discipline. In addition, this school helps us to learn and interact with different people from all over the world. We have teachers from Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and so forth. As for me, I really learn a lot as a teacher from my colleagues, who show me different approaches I may use in class to teach. Another change is gender equality. I now observe that many girls are taking up courses, which were dominated by boys during my time as a student. This is a very big improvement taking place in this school. However, what worries more is the shortage of teaching materials and tools in our workshops due to the increased number of students. Lastly, as someone who learnt and received his own second chance at life here, I must say that I am very happy to be back here. Working, learning and sharing as a BOSCONIAN is what I will always treasure in my life.

These are stories of courage, resilience, pain, and everything that comes after. These are the stories of the lives of real people from whom we can all learn something. Moreover, these are stories of love: love that transforms, love that sacrifices, love that endures, and love that shares. By sharing these stories, we hope to share inspiration, hope, and meaning.
