120 Youths Gather for Salesian Formation Day on Joyful Service

KOA, LOA and Mission Group Youths Unite at Don Bosco East Boroko to Deepen Liturgical and Christian Service

Around 120 young people from different Salesian institutions and parishes in Port Moresby gathered on May 2, 2026, for a Provincial Formation Day organized by the Department of Salesian Youth Ministry of the Blessed Philip Rinaldi Vice-Province (PGS). The program was held at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Mary Help of Christians and Emmaus Conference Center, Don Bosco East Boroko.

The participants included members of the Knights of the Altar (KOA), Ladies of the Altar (LOA), and the Youth Mission Group from DBTI, DBTS Gabutu, Caritas Business College, Sabama Parish, Serokone Chapel, MHC VET FODE Centre, and the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians.

The day began with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Pedro Sachitula, SDB, with Fr. Shoji Matthew, SDB. Formation sessions and workshops focused on the theme “Joyful Service in the Liturgical Celebrations and in Day-to-Day Life,” helping participants understand their role in liturgical ministry and Christian service.

The sessions were animated by Salesian priests, religious sisters, Salesian Cooperators, and youth leaders from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM). The program aimed to form young people with courage and enthusiasm to serve the Church and society as “good Christians and honest citizens.”

The formation concluded with group sharing, prayer, and a sending ceremony, encouraging participants to continue serving joyfully in their schools, parishes, and communities.
